WASHINGTON – Turkey eggs placed in incubators on Jan. 1 declined 4 percent to 26.9 million, the US Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service reported. Eggs in incubators increased 2 percent from the Dec. 1, 2013 total of 26.4 million eggs.

Poults hatched in December were down slightly compared to a year ago, NASS said. Poults hatched totaled 21.9 million for the month. But poults hatched in December were 3 percent higher compared to the November 2013 total of 21.2 million poults.


Net poults placed in December totaled 20.7 million, down 4 percent from the number placed during the same month a year ago, according to NASS. Net placements climbed 4 percent from the November 2013 total of 19.9 million.
