IRVINE, Calif. – Taco Bell, a unit of Yum! Brands Inc., is testing a (very) hot new menu in some of the chain's locations in Kansas City.
The quick-service chain is featuring a number of its Mexican food items with Sriracha chili sauce, the popular Asian condiment made from chili peppers, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt. The condiment originates in Thailand, where locals use it as a dipping sauce.
“Our customers love spicy food and we know that Sriracha is on the top of their list as the latest, most relevant flavor,” said Stephanie Perdue, vice president, marketing. “This test brings together two things our consumers are passionate about: Taco Bell and Sriracha, and we’re looking forward to hearing the feedback from our fans.”
The new offerings feature Taco Bell’s new Sriracha ground beef and Sriracha Crema sauce. The breakfast menu will include a Sriracha Grande Scrambler (available with steak or sausage ) filled with scrambled eggs, seasoned breakfast potatoes, Sriracha Crema sauce, nacho cheese sauce, bacon, and topped with pico de gallo, sour cream, and cheddar cheese. Menu items include:
• Sriracha Beef Griller
• Sriracha Taco and Taco Supreme
• Sriracha Quesarito
• Sriracha Nachos
• Sriracha Quesarito Box
Taco Bell joins other QSRs that have tapped into the trend of consumer demand for spicy flavors. In August, Jack in the Box launched a Grande Sausage Breakfast Burrito, which is served with Sriracha on the side; while White Castle introduced a line of Sriracha Chicken Sliders in June.
