Eggs in incubators on Oct. 1 totaled 27.7 million, up 5 percent from a year ago, while eggs in incubators on Sept. 1 advanced 2 percent to total 27.3 million eggs.
Poults hatched during September climbed 9 percent compared to a year ago, according to USDA. Turkey poults hatched for the month totaled 22.9 million. Compared to August total of 23.5 million poults hatched, poults hatched in September declined 3 percent.
Net poults placed for meat production during September increased 10 percent to 21.6 million. Net placements fell 7 percent from the August 2014 total of 23.2 million, USDA reported.
