On Oct. 31, total red-meat supplies in freezers slipped 2 percent from the previous month, according to USDA's Cold Storage report. Red meat supplies also were down 9 percent compared to a year ago. Total pounds of beef in freezers were 374,868,000 lbs., slightly higher compared to September, but down 15 percent from a year ago.
Frozen pork supplies totaled 524,769,000 lbs., down 4 percent from September levels and down 7 percent from a year ago. Stocks of pork bellies dropped 18 percent to 27,884,000 lbs. compared to the previous month. However, pork bellies in freezers were 5 percent higher compared to last year.
Frozen poultry supplies totaled 1.01 billion lbs. on Oct. 31, down 5 percent from September and down 9 percent from a year ago, USDA reported. Total stocks of chicken climbed 5 percent to 659,247,000 lbs. from September, but declined 9 percent from a year ago. Total frozen turkey supplies dropped 19 percent to 390,249,000 lbs. compared to September and 10 percent compared to Oct. 31, 2013.
