Giant's supplier, Dinuba, Calif.-based Ruiz Food Products, Inc., notified the retailer that some of the product may contain meat from Rancho Feeding. The Petaluma, Calif.-based beef processor recalled more than 8 million lbs. of beef after the Food Safety Inspection Service determined the meat came from diseased and unsound animals that were processed without federal inspection.
The affected products include El Monterey Steak & Cheese Taquitos in 28 oz. packages with the UPC 7100740389 and best if used by dates of: May 5, 17, 20 and 22; June 7; Oct. 8, 11, 16 and 21; and Dec. 12.
Giant Food operates 170 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs approximately 20,000 workers.
