NEWBERRY, SC – Federal and local authorities are investigating the death of a man who was killed at a Louis Rich meat processing plant in Newberry, SC. Louis Rich is a subsidiary of Kraft Foods.
Todd Hendrix, 46, was crushed to death in a machine early on the morning of March 8. The Newberry County Coroner's office said Hendrix died from asphyxia due to entrapment. His body was found 30 minutes after he was last seen, according to news reports.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the accident, although Hendrix's death has been ruled an accident.
The Louis Rich plant produces lunch meats and other food items.
