New York-based Transatlantic Foods operates establishments in Scranton, Pa., and Andover, NJ, according to FSIS. The recall was issued because the Andover facility had not been issued a FSIS Grant of Inspection. FSIS inspectors were not assigned to the plant, but the plant was producing pork and poultry items using labels approved for use by and bearing the establishment number of the Scranton facility. Additionally, products were made in undisclosed locations without inspection, FSIS noted. There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the products.
Products affected by the recall include duck fat, fresh sausage and bacon. FSIS said the duck fat was produced from January 2012 through May 2014 and bears the establishment number “P-39954.” The remaining products were produced prior to October 18, 2013 and bear the establishment number “Est. 33806” or “Est. 45100,” “P-33806” or “P-45100” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection. The sausage and bacon products were shipped to retail, Internet and wholesale locations nationwide.
