BIRDSBORO, Pa. – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Birdsboro Kosher Farms Corp. for failing to correct previously cited safety violations at the company's kosher poultry processing facility. Birdsboro Kosher is facing $59,400 in fines.

A follow-up inspection of the processing facility revealed four repeat violations, according to OSHA. The agency said Birdsboro Kosher failed to develop machine-specific procedures for preventing a machine from turning on during servicing; provide machine guarding; guard live electrical parts; and provide protective equipment for the eyes and face for employees exposed to electrical hazards. The repeat violations carry a $39,600 penalty.


OSHA also cited Birdsboro Kosher for failing to provide maintenance training to employees, and failing to protect employees from hearing loss. Serious violations come with an $18,810 penalty.

The company also was fined $990 for failing to keep required records.
