The company is investing $20 million to add a second production line to the Denison complex. In 2013, Ruiz Foods announced the first phase of the facility's expansion, a 50,000 sq. ft. building addition and a new production line, to boost capacity of its El Monterey and Tornados products. The project included the addition of unspecified equipment and a price tag of $30 million, the company confirmed.
According to a spokeswoman for the company, the second phase of the project will accommodate growing demand for Ruiz products in the retail, foodservice and convenience-store segments. In a press release, Rachel Cullen, president and CEO said the addition of the second production line will eventually add as many as 175 new jobs at the plant.
The company launched its Denison operations in May 2005. After a complete renovation of the existing facility, the company scheduled its first shipment of El Monterey Family Pack Burritos by January 2006. Ruiz Foods produces El Monterey brand frozen Mexican foods and Tornados brand frozen snack foods.
