Corn in the 18 major states was rated 76 percent good to excellent as of June 15, up one percentage point from a week earlier but well above 64 percent at the same time last year, the USDA said in its weekly Crop Progress report. This year’s crop was rated 20 percent fair (21 percent a week earlier and 28 percent last year) and 4 percent poor to very poor (4 percent a week earlier and 8 percent last year).
Corn emergence in the 18 states was at 97 percent, ahead of 91 percent a year ago and about even with 96 percent as the 2009-13 average for the date.
The soybean crop in the 18 major states was rated 73 percent good to excellent (74 percent a week earlier and 64 percent a year ago), 23 percent fair (22 percent a week earlier and 30 percent last year) and 4 percent poor to very poor (4 percent the prior week and 6 percent last year). Soybeans were 92 percent planted (83 last year and 90 percent average) and 83 percent emerged (63 percent last year and 77 percent average).
