PERRY, Ga. – Firefighters in Perry, Ga. responded to blaze at a Perdue Farms chicken processing plant on July 21. The call came in shortly before 4 p.m. Employees were evacuated from the facility, and no injuries were reported.
Broiler equipment on the exterior of the cooking plant caught fire, according to Julie DeYoung, a Perdue spokesperson. Cooking plant employees were told not to report to work the next day.
“The cooking plant is not operating today. We are evaluating the cause and extent of the damage. The processing plant and the distribution center are not involved and continue to operate,” DeYoung said in a statement.
