Ronald Prestage |
WASHINGTON – Police at the US Capitol building confiscated a 9mm handgun from Ronald Prestage, a veterinarian with Prestage Farms and president-elect of the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), according to news reports.
“NPPC has no comment on this,” the organization said in a statement.
The incident occurred after 9 a.m. Two Capitol police officers escorted Prestage off the premises. He was taken to Capitol Police headquarters for processing, according to a department representative.
Prestage has a concealed carry permit in his home state, South Carolina.
A NPPC bio states that Prestage is a pork producer from Camden, SC. He is primarily responsible for the sows and turkeys on the farms in South Carolina and a swine operation in Mississippi. Prestage Farms is a family-owned operation that includes hogs, turkeys, cattle and cropland for hay, according to NPPC.
