Social media pressure led Burger King to return Chicken Fries to the menu.

MIAMI – Chicken Fries are back at Burger King restaurants.

Chicken Fries are made with white meat chicken coated in a light breading seasoned with spices and herbs. Burger King Worldwide first launched the chicken strips in 2005. But the company removed them from the menu in 2012 to make room for new products.

The company said removing Chicken Fries from the menu sparked "overwhelming number of enthusiastic tweets, Change.org petitions, dedicated Tumblr and Facebook pages and phone calls" from fans of the product. In response to consumer demand, Burger King resurrected Chicken Fries as a limited-time offering.

“Our fans have spoken, and we had to listen. On peak days we’ve seen one tweet every 40 seconds about Chicken Fries, many of them directly petitioning, begging, for us to bring them back. When you have guests who are this passionate about a product, you have to give them what they want,” said Eric Hirschhorn, chief marketing officer North America, Burger King Corporation. “We want to do right by our guests by bringing them back for a limited time.”

Chicken Fries are prices at $2.89 for nine pieces per order. Dipping sauces include barbecue, Honey Mustard, Ranch, Zesty Buffalo and Sweet & Sour.

The company also is offering commemorative t-shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, pins, temporary tattoos and other memorabilia to celebrate the return of Chicken Fries. All proceeds will be donated to the Burger King McLamore Foundation.
