The US Food and Drug Administration, working with the Partnership for Food Protection (PFP), recently launched the Animal Feed Network. The network consists of two reporting portals:
• Pet Event Tracking Network (PETNet) is for pet food-related illnesses and product defects.
• LivestockNet is for feed-related illnesses and product defects associated with livestock animals, aquaculture species, and horses.
The Animal Feed Network enables information-sharing among government agencies and public health officials, in addition to an early alert for pet food and animal feed-related incidents such as illness or product defects. Agencies investigating animal feed-related incidents can then focus resources on events such as adulterated pet food or animal feed. Participation in the network does not commit users to take enforcement or regulatory action.
