ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. – An early morning fire destroyed a rural slaughter and meat-packing facility in Armstrong County Sept. 17, according to news reports.

Crews from the Dayton Fire Department spent several hours trying to control the blaze at Dayton Packing. Water-tanker trucks arrived from neighboring areas because of the building's rural location. The owners were living in a mobile home a short distance from the building.

No one was hurt, and no animals were lost in the fire. However, more than half of the facility was destroyed along with any meat stored inside, according to news reports.
