Magro's is planning to convert a former supermarket into a meat market. A zoning request submitted by the company indicates slaughtering would occur once a week inside the plant. An initial hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled for Sept. 17.
Magro's specializes in conventional and custom meat processing and sales of seafood and hard-to-find meat items such as oxtail and turkey fries. The company processes beef, chicken, pork and lamb. Magro's also offers deer processing at four locations in Springfield, Auburn, Pittsfield and Mt. Sterling.
