NEW CASTLE, Del. – An animal-wastewater processor has proposed developing a facility to recycle poultry sludge created by producers in the Delmarva Peninsula.

Greenville, Del.-based Green Recovery Technologies plans to remove at least two truckloads of poultry-processing waste per day. The company will steam the waste in a closed system with dimethyl ether, a chemical solvent, to extract proteins and liquids containing poultry fats. The products are for use in the pet food industry.

The company submitted an application for a Coastal Zone Act permit to open the facility in the Riveredge Industrial Park in New Castle. The state's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has scheduled a public hearing on the plan for Oct. 20.

Green Recovery Technologies specializes in recycling animal processing wastewater into re-usable products.
