WASHINGTON – Turkey production is on the rise in the United States, the US Department of Agriculture noted in its Turkey Hatchery report.

Turkey eggs in incubators on Sept. 1, 2014, totaled 27.1 million, up 6 percent from a year ago. However, eggs in incubators declined 3 percent from the Aug. 1 total of 27.9 million eggs, according to USDA.


Poults hatched during August climbed 3 percent to 23.6 million compared to a year ago, but declined 3 percent from the July total of 24.4 million.

Producers placed 23.2 million net poults for meat production during August, up 2 percent from the number placed during August last year. Net placements declined 4 percent from the July total of 24.2 million, USDA noted.
