BOISE – Amarillo, Texas-based Caviness Beef Packers has teamed with JR Simplot Company, a leading frozen food processing company, to build a $100 million beef-processing plant near Kuna, Idaho, according to local news reports.

The plant will process cull dairy cows and bulls from dairy farms in the Northwest and cattle ranches in the Intermountain West, according to news reports. Processing capacity is expected to reach 1,700 head per day. Prepackaged boxed beef will be marketed to foodservice operators and retailers.


Construction on the plant is expected to begin in the spring with the opening slated for fall of 2016, according to news reports. The facility will cover 300,000 sq. ft. and will operate under the name CS Beef Packers LLC.

Caviness Beef is a family owned beef packing and further-processing business with facilities in Hereford, Texas and Amarillo. The company processes 1,600 head of cattle per day, according to its website.

JR Simplot Company is one of the largest privately owned companies in the world with locations in Australia, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Southeast Asia and China. The company employs 10,000, and engages in frozen-food processing, fertilizer manufacturing, cattle feeding and other agriculture-related businesses. The company owns more than a dozen ranches with more than 30,000 head of cattle in Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington State, according to the company's website.
