LAKELAND, Fla. – Publix Super Markets announced Jan. 14 it was issuing a voluntary recall for ready-to-cook beef and chicken fajitas and pork chorizo burgers because they may contain peanuts, which cause allergenic reactions to some, and they are not declared on product packaging. People allergic or severely sensitive to peanuts could suffer serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Publix learned of the allergen contamination from its spice-mix supplier. These ready-to-cook products are sold at all Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. No illnesses have been reported in connection with these products.


Products being recalled packaged in foam trays with plastic over-wrap include:
• Chicken Fajitas, UPC Code 25907-00000.
• Beef Fajitas, UPC Code 25976-00000’
• Pork Chorizo Burger, UPC Code 84930-00000’
All three products also exhibit sell-by dates through Jan. 14, 2015. The total amount of products being recalled was not disclosed.

"As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director. "Consumers who have purchased the products in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund.
