ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Domino’s announced plans to roll out tricked-out pizza delivery cars. The Domino’s DXP (Delivery Expert) is a Chevrolet Spark that is custom designed to keep pizzas hot and fresh.
The DXP features a Domino’s branded illuminated warming oven behind the driver’s door that can hold two Heatwave pizza bags. The car has front and rear storage areas with non-slip easy-to-clean surfaces to stabilize items during delivery. The DXP can hold up to 80 pizzas; all but the driver’s seat has been removed. The DXP comes equipped with a 1.2-liter engine and OnStar navigation.
“The Domino’s DXP is the first purpose-built vehicle aimed at revolutionizing pizza delivery,” said Russell Weiner, president of Domino’s USA. “This innovation allows drivers to do their jobs with greater ease and efficiency, and demonstrates that Domino's is absolutely fanatical about making perfect deliveries.”
The DXP is the creation of Kenneth R. Baker, a former GM R&D executive, Roush Enterprises, a full-service product development supplier, and Domino’s. Roush Enterprises and Domino’s are working to convert and deliver 100 DXPs to 25 markets across the United States, including Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, San Diego and Seattle over the next 90 days.
Domino’s noted that pizza delivery accounts for roughly two-thirds of the company’s business. Domino’s delivers about 400 million pizzas per year In the US; and delivery drivers cover roughly 10 million miles per week.
