PHILADELPHIA – Dietz & Watson unveiled “Originals,” a new line of antibiotic-free and organic deli meats and cheeses free from rBST, a bovine growth hormone.
Recognizing the increased consumer demand for better-for-you foods, the company’s new line features antibiotic-free ham, turkey breast and roast beef deli meats and beef hot dogs; organic turkey breast meat and beef hot dogs; and rBST-free Swiss, cheddar and provolone cheeses.
“One of the main reasons for our success over the past 75 years has been our ability to not only react to consumer demands, but to anticipate them, so we have been working hard on perfecting the Originals product line for years,” said Lauren Eni, vice president of brand strategy at Dietz & Watson and great-granddaughter of company founder Gottlieb Dietz. “There is a lot of ongoing research into antibiotic use in livestock and its effect on resistant bacteria in humans, but regardless of where the science takes us, there is no question that consumers are interested in ABF and organic products.”
Dietz & Watson has a history of working with responsible supply partners for all of its raw material. The supply is humanely raised on farms without the use of hormones and from partners who limit their use of antibiotics. The new Originals line is unique from Dietz & Watson legacy products in that they have partnered with farms that provide raw material that never receive antibiotics. To ensure compliance with the standards and claims of the Originals line, the company will require annual audits.
