“Over the last 15 years, the ties between our respective companies have grown steadily stronger,” said Mike Satzow, former owner of North Country Smokehouse. “We share the same values when it comes to quality workmanship, respect for our raw materials and a commitment to providing the best-possible product to our customers. This next step in our business cycle came very naturally, and we look forward to a new chapter in our history.”
Both businesses will continue operating from their respective sites in New Hampshire and Quebec.
“Thanks to our reputation for quality and demand for our products we have grown significantly over the past several years, exceeding the capacity of our current facility,” Satzow said. “Despite this need to expand, however, it was also important to us to uphold our strong commitment to the Claremont area. After months of planning and preparation, we are pleased to announce that our team of 32 dedicated and experienced employees will now be driving operations at the plant in New Hampshire for and with Les Spécialités Prodal.”
The strategic acquisition of North Country Smokehouse, renowned for the quality of its ham, sausage and bacon products (bacon currently makes up 80 percent of its production), will help to strengthen Les Spécialités Prodal’s industry position. Specifically, it will help advance efforts in research and development of new products, leverage the expertise of both companies’ workforces, expand the existing inventory of facilities operated by the Canadian company and further enhances its overall offerings.
“North Country Smokehouse produces and markets what we classify as premium smoked products, while we enjoy access to the highest-quality specialty pork through our sister company, Les Viandes du Breton Inc., the leading and most experienced producer of organic and natural pork in North America,” said Serge Breton, president of Les Spécialités Prodal. “The decision to pool our expertise and activities, bolstered by our employees’ collective expertise, will provide Les Spécialités Prodal and North Country Smokehouse access to new markets. This is good news for our employees and our respective networks as well as our customers. We are also very pleased to benefit from the extensive experience of Mr. Satzow, who will continue to oversee activities at the New Hampshire facility.”
