WASHINGTON – Chicago-based La Guadalupana Wholesale Co., Inc. is recalling 34,923 lbs. of pork and chicken tamales due to misbranding and undeclared allergen concerns, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture reported.

The tamales contain egg whites which are not declared on the product label. FSIS in-plant personnel uncovered the problem during routine verification activities.


The affected products include:

• 25-lb. cases containing 100 4-oz. pieces of “La Guadalupana Hot Pork Tamales.”
• 15-lb. cases containing 80 3-oz. pieces of “La Guadalupana Hot Pork Tamales.”
• 25-lb. cases containing 100 4-oz. pieces of “La Guadalupana Hot Chicken Tamales.”
• 15-lb. cases containing 80 3-oz. pieces of “La Guadalupana Hot Chicken Tamales.”
• 15-lb. cases containing 60 4-oz. pieces of “La Guadalupana Hot Chicken Tamales.”
• 12.5-lb. cases containing 50 4-oz. pieces of “La Guadalupana Hot Chicken Tamales.”

FSIS said the tamales were produced between Jan. 16 and March 30. The products bear the establishment number “EST. 21094” or “P-21094” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The tamales were shipped to retail locations in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
