State records show the tribe bought the property for $6.3 million. The property lies east of the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino, while a slaughter plant is on the west side of the casino. No redevelopment plans have been announced, but the tribe will not have the option of using the plant for gaming.
At the time, Cargill said its decision to close the plant was the result of beef cattle producers retaining animals for herd expansion, causing a supply shortage.
Approximately 600 employees were affected by the plant closure.
