Quincy Street, Inc., Holland, Mich., launched a recall of approximately 49,308 lbs. of pork sausage products on concerns the products may contain foreign matter, FSIS said. The company discovered the problem during routine verification activities.
The sausage items were produced on April 22 through April 23 and were shipped to institutions nationwide. The affected products bear the establishment number “EST. 18963” inside the USDA mark of inspection. A complete list of affected products can be found on the FSIS website.
A gourmet sausage and meat producer initiated a recall of approximately 29,052 lbs. of poultry and pork products due to misbranding.
Demes Gourmet Corp., Fullerton, Calif., recalled the items because the chicken sausages were wrapped in hog casings that were not listed on the ingredient labels. FSIS said the casings may cause an allergic reaction in individuals who are allergic to pork proteins. The company produces its own private-label products.
The affected products include 18 lb. cases of 12-oz. tray packs of “Panama Sweet Chicken Longanisa.” The sausages were produced on various dates between Sept. 17, 2014 and June 1, 2015 and bear the establishment number “P-2888” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The sausages were shipped to retail locations in California.
FSIS personnel discovered the problem while conducting a routine food safety assessment of the company’s products, the agency said. There have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions.
