OMAHA – A worker at Tyson Foods' further processing plant in Omaha was sent to Nebraska Medical Center after suffering an injury the morning of July 23.
The Omaha World Herald reported the worker's left hand was trapped in equipment designed for meat grinding resulting in the loss of two of his fingers. Douglas County emergency dispatchers were contacted around 10:45 a.m. immediately following the incident.
"Unfortunately one of our team members who works in our Omaha plant was injured this morning," a Tyson spokesman wrote in an email to M+P. "He is currently receiving appropriate medical care. Our thoughts are with him."
Reports indicated the worker was conscious and alert while he was being extricated from the equipment.
"Workplace safety is essential to our company and we take incidents like this one very seriously," the spokesman stated, adding that an investigation into the matter was forthcoming.
