NEW YORK – In rating the brand equity of various foodservice companies, the 2015 Harris Poll EquiTrend study compared 66 restaurant brands spanning various formats by ranking them based on: familiarity, quality and consideration. More than 1,400 brands were measured by the study in 148 categories. The top-ranked brands included: In-N-Out Burger (in the Burger Restaurant category); Subway topped the Sandwich Shop Brand of the Year for the second year in a row; Chick-fil-A was recognized by the study as the top chicken restaurant brand in 2015; and Pizza Hut and Chipotle topped their segments as the brands of the year among pizza chains and fast-casual Mexican categories respectively.
Meanwhile, for the first time, Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba’s Italian Grill both earned the top spots in their respective categories: Casual Dining Restaurant and Italian Dining.
The Harris Poll included a sample of nearly 39,000 US consumers from January through February of 2015. The respondents were asked to rate 40 randomly chosen brands and each received approximately 1,000 ratings, which were used to ascertain the results.
