AUSTIN, Minn. – The US Chamber of Commerce Foundation named Hormel Foods Corp. as one of the finalists in its 2015 Corporate Citizenship Awards. Thanks to its “Project SPAMMY,” which is the company’s shelf-stable product developed to help feed malnourished children in Guatemala’s family centers and orphanages, Hormel is one of final three companies to be chosen finalists in the category of Community Improvement Program. Working with Food for the Poor and Caritas Arquidiocesana to ship and distribute the products, Hormel has contributed more than 8.5 million cans.

The US Chamber’s Citizens Awards include eight categories honoring exemplary corporate citizenship. The Community Improvement category recognizes companies that create successful initiatives at the local level. According to the foundation, “These companies have proven that the business sector has the ability and desire to create impact.”

The winners of the awards are selected by a panel of corporate peers and experts and will be announced Oct. 6 as part of a ceremony in Washington, DC.
