LAUREL, Miss. – Sanderson Farms, Inc. has named Vania Nelson translation and interpreting services manager at the company.

In her role, Nelson will be responsible for the translation of all company correspondence from English into other languages. She also will monitor company linguistic demographics in order to identify and assess Sanderson Farms’ translation and interpretation needs. Nelson previously served as Sanderson’s corporate translator for six years.
Nelson began her career with the company February 2007 as a beginning trainee. In role as corporate translator, she translated training material and delivered training to hourly and salaried employees across the five states and 13 different cities in which Sanderson Farms operates. She also served as a translator and interpreter for all of the company’s poultry processing and production facilities. Nelson worked with many internal departments in addition to assisting with Spanish training and interpretation needs.
Before joining Sanderson, Nelson worked as an instructor for Delgado Community College in New Orleans and Nunez Community College in Chalmette, La., where she taught Spanish and English as a Second Language courses, designed curriculum and assessed students’ performance. Nelson and her family relocated to Hattiesburg, Miss., following Hurricane Katrina.
A native of Puerto Rico, Nelson holds a bachelor of arts in graphic design from Loyola Univ. She also holds a master’s in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in adult education in Spanish and English as a Second Language from the Univ. of New Orleans.
