It was a good day for bacon — the basketball player and the strips were both sizzling.
During a game in late January, Florida State Univ. freshman Dwayne Bacon, perhaps fueled by the bacon-mania surrounding his name and play, scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in his team’s 76-65 win over Clemson.
That’s not all. In honor of the freshman sensation, fans at Florida State’s Tucker Center auditorium received free bacon upon entering the facility as part of a university-sponsored promotion. A local restaurant, Madison Social, supplied the 10,000 strips for the event.
Of course, Florida State super fans — Nick Alberico, Bryan Cicale and Dylan Cicale — were also at the game, dressed as bacon strips and rooting for Bacon. The students, known as the Bacon Boys, have been mainstays at Florida State basketball home games this year to show their support of Bacon.
