CINCINNATI – The Kroger Co. received one repeat and one serious safety violation after an employee’s fingertip was amputated by a band saw he was operating while butchering meat, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the US Dept. of Labor reported.
A follow-up investigation found that machine guarding on the band saw was inadequate for the product being cut and improperly adjusted. Additionally, the story lacked an energy isolation program that included specific training and inspections.
Kroger is facing $45,500 in proposed penalties.
