SEAFORD, Del. – Poultry processor Allen Harim will close its processing plant in Cordova, Maryland, in July. Approximately 300 workers will be impacted, the company said. CEO Steve Evans cited a combination of factors driving the closure, including the age of the facility, a shift in the company’s product mix and the need for greater efficiencies.

“We’ve worked very hard over the past three years to take this company in a new and focused direction and to return it to a profitable operation that will continue to grow and employ people on Delmarva,” Evans said in a statement. “We are following a strategic plan that achieves our goal of a sustainable company moving forward.”

Evans said impacted workers would be offered jobs at the company’s hatchery, feed mill and truck shop in Seaford, a hatchery in Dagsboro and the main processing facility in Harbeson, Delaware. Additionally, the company will coordinate with state and local officials to provide all available resources to assist workers affected by the Cordova plant closure. Meanwhile, most of the processing equipment at Cordova will be moved to the facility in Harbeson in the coming months.
