Mary's Pet Food organic chicken formula
Superior Farms will try out a new endeavor of raw pet food diet.

DIXON, Calif. – Superior Farms Pet Provisions (SFPP) and Pitman Farms have thrown their collective hat into the ring of premium good-for-Fido pet foods and chews. The companies announced their partnership on Mary’s Pet Food, which is a raw pet food diet made from organic chicken, free-range duck and turkey.

Pitman Farms is a vertically integrated company that controls its product from farms to feeding to processing and transportation. Superior Farms Pet Provisions and Dakota Treats produce natural lamb, venison, and beef pet treats and chews from its own facilities in United States and New Zealand. Like Mary’s Pet Food, all SFPP products are all-natural and grain and gluten free.

“This is a great alignment for Superior Farms Pet Provisions,” Gary Pfeiffer, president of SFPP. “We are both California-based ‘farm-to-pet’ companies and we use single source animal protein. We are very excited to bring these high-quality products to market nationally.”

The market potential is strong: 65 percent of US households, or 79.7 million homes, own a pet, according to the American Pet Products Association’s annual Pet Ownership & Annual Expenses survey. Additionally, Rockville, Maryland-based Packaged Facts, a leading market research firm, reported that the overall market for pet treats and chews is valued at $5.4 billion.

“Superior Farms Pet Provisions has an understanding and knowledge of the pet industry,” said David Pitman, who represents the third generation of the family owned business. “We’re good at being farmers of organic chickens, turkeys and ducks.”

The companies plan to present the products with a new packaging design at the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Florida.
