WASHINGTON – As part of a new proposal by the US Dept. of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), raw and processed poultry products from Poland would be allowed for export into the United States.

The agency is accepting comments on the proposed rule, which if it were to become final, would still require all products exported to the US to be inspected at the port of entry. The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s (APHIS) animal disease requirements would have to be met as part of the proposal, according to the agency, which has reviewed the country’s laws and inspection process and concluded it is equivalent to the FSIS system. Currently, APHIS doesn’t consider Poland’s poultry exports to be at risk for highly pathogenic avian influenza or Newcastle disease as it is part of the European Union’s Poultry Trade Region.
