FREMONT, Neb. – The Fremont Chamber of Commerce passed by unanimous vote a resolution supporting Costco Wholesale plans to build a poultry processing plant somewhere in Dodge County.
Costco initially had its sights on land near Nickerson, Nebraska. But the Nickerson Village Board voted 5-0 against rezoning the proposed site to allow Costco to build a poultry processing facility. But the board of directors of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce made it clear that other locations in the greater Fremont area remain open for poultry processing business.
“Dodge County is a livestock friendly jurisdiction and is deeply rooted in agriculture,” the chamber said in a news release. “The Fremont Chamber supports the significant job creation and investment in capital for the area. This opportunity creates diversification for farmers looking for ways to grow their farm. The proposed project would support the existing economic infrastructure and add industrial diversification.”
Costco is working with Lincoln Premium Poultry on the plant project. The company said its representatives will continue looking all options in the greater Fremont area.
