WICHITA, KANSAS – Cargill Pork has adopted a new 100% vegetarian diet for hogs that are used to produce its Good Nature pork line of products sold to retail and foodservice operators. The new diet is the latest addition to Cargill’s strict, all-natural standards for Good Nature pork, the company said. Already guaranteed to be antibiotic-free, the product is made from hogs selected from the program that never receive antibiotics or growth stimulants.
Good Nature pork is targeted at an increasing number of consumers who are conscious of how and where their food is raised, said Joe Linot, pork marketing manager, Cargill Pork. "By using a 100% vegetarian diet for hogs in our program, Cargill can provide options for consumers who want to make healthy, environmentally responsible choices when they select Good Nature pork for their families," he added.
Hogs consuming this vegetarian diet free of animal by-products receive a mixture of natural grain. These responsible feeding practices create a pork product rich in taste without using artificial means, Cargill relays. "If you start with natural, healthy ingredients, you’re going to have a natural, healthy pork product and a great eating experience," Mr. Linot said.
