WASHINGTON – Turkey poults hatched during April were up 2 percent from a year ago, the National Agricultural Statistics Service of the US Department of Agriculture said in its Turkey Hatchery report. Poults totaled 23.8 million for the month.
Net poults placed in April totaled 23.2 million, an increase of 6 percent compared to April 2015, and 4 percent higher compared to the March total of 22.4 million, NASS reported.
For May 1, turkey eggs in incubators climbed 5 percent to 28.2 million. Compared to the April 1 total of 29.4 million eggs, turkey eggs in incubators on May 1 declined 4 percent, according to NASS.
