GARDENA, Calif. – Let’s Do Lunch, Inc., doing business as Integrated Food Service (IFS), launched a voluntary recall of ready-to-eat sandwiches after routine sampling at the company’s facility found Listeria monocytogenes on multiple food contact surfaces where sandwiches were made on several occasions.
IFS said the sandwiches were distributed nationwide to a number of school districts and foodservice distributors that serve school districts. Some of the affected items include turkey, ham and cheese sandwich melts; cheeseburger sliders, chili dogs, barbecued rib sandwiches and beef sausage sandwiches, among other products. A complete list is available on the IFS website.
“Foods produced in the plant are unlikely to still be in commerce and due to school summer breaks, any foods remaining in frozen storage can swiftly be returned to the company,” the company said in a statement. “No retail products are affected by this recall.”
IFS is working closely with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which discovered the problem during environmental sampling activities. IFS added that the company has engaged independent food safety experts to investigate the source of the contamination and take appropriate corrective actions.
