OTTAWA, Ontario – Pine Creek Farms Manitoba Ltd. is facing a C$60,000 ($46,000) fine for illegal sales of turkeys and chickens, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported.
A CFIA investigation found that between May 10, 2007, and Oct. 6, 2011, Pine Creek Farms sold turkeys and chickens and illegally transported them between the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan in violation of Canada’s Meat Inspection Act. Pine Creek Farms is not a federally registered facility and cannot legally transport poultry from one province to another, CFIA said.
Pine Creek Farms entered a guilty plea to one count of contravening the Meat Inspection Act in the Manitoba Provincial Court in Winnipeg. A joint recommended sentence of C$60,000 was accepted.
