BROME LAKE, Quebec – Brome Lake Ducks, a producer of Pekin ducks in Canada, plans to embark on an expansion project at a cost of C$30 million, according to news reports.
The company said it will acquire a beef plant in Asbestos, Quebec, that was owned by La Viande Laroche. Brome Lake plans to retrofit and expand the facility which will enable the company to double its production of Pekin ducks. Brome Lake also plans to build a new hatchery and buildings at its farm.
Brome Lake Ducks was established in 1912, and it is the oldest farm in Canada specializing in breeding Pekin ducks, according to the company’s web site. The company produces more than 30 processed duck products in addition to a line of raw products. The company employs more than 200 workers. The expansion will likely double the company’s work force.
