Bacon is bouncing back into the English breakfast, according to a UK Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) report.

Breakfast staples bacon and sausages are appearing in morning meals more often in 5 percent and 2.6 percent more breakfasts, respectively, the AHDB said in its most recent Consumer Insights report. However, volume sales of bacon and sausages both are both down 2 percent, according to market research firm Kantar.

A survey of 2,000 Britons found that more than 25 percent of people aged 18-24 had removed bacon from their breakfasts. The result was attributed, in part, to the release of a World Health Organization report that linked consumption of processed meats, such as bacon and sausages, to cancer.

However, data from Kantar showed that bacon appeared in 87 million breakfasts last year, which represents an increase of 14.3 percent, while sales of fresh sausage climbed 5.9 percent.
