WASHINGTON – Tucker, Georgia-based Sentry Food Solutions announced the recall of frozen chicken products thought to be contaminated with glass or hard plastics. The possibility of the products containing the foreign material prompted the company to issue the recall of approximately 22,570 lbs. of frozen entrées produced on March 17-18, April 30 and May 13, 2016, after being notified by the US Dept. of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, which received complaints from consumers. No injuries or illnesses have been reported.

The product packages contain the establishment number “EST. P-19031” and were shipped to retailers in Texas, Pennsylvania and Indiana. The products in the recall include:

•             10-oz. tray pack in box of Saffron Road “LEMONGRASS BASIL CHICKEN WITH BASMATI RICE” with a “Best By” date of “08-19-2017” and lot number 0219-00207-016.

•             10-oz. tray pack in box of Saffron Road “LEMONGRASS BASIL CHICKEN WITH BASMATI RICE” with a “Best By” date of “10-29-2017” and lot number 0429-00258-016.

•             10-oz. tray pack in box of Saffron Road “LEMONGRASS BASIL CHICKEN WITH BASMATI RICE” with a “Best By” date of “10-29-2017” and lot number 0429-00207-016.

A recent report by Stericycle ExpertSolutions concluded that during the first quarter of 2016, USDA recalls have involved 45 times more pounds of product than during the same period the previous year. Among the reasons for the spike, according to the report, was that improved methods of detection have been utilized by the food industry.
