WASHINGTON – The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced an informational webinar that will explain draft guidance for good manufacturing practice (GMP) requirements for food for animals and human food by-products for use as animal food. The webinar is scheduled for Oct. 14.
In August, FDA issued two draft guidance documents to help industry implement the Preventive Controls for Animal Food rule of the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA). The draft guidance for GMP requirements for food for animals includes information on training and related recordkeeping, in addition to compliance in areas such as personnel, plant and grounds, sanitation, plant operations and other requirements.
The draft guidance for human food by-products is intended to help industry determine what requirements of the Preventive Controls for Animal Food rule apply to their human food by-product, which can include wheat middlings, grain products from grain milling and vegetable pulp.
The FDA has finalized five of the seven major rules implementing the core of FSMA. The agency plans to finalize all seven rules this year.
Details about the webinar are available on the FDA website.
