VANCOUVER – Ricky’s Group of Family-Style Restaurants announced on Oct. 27 that it will begin to serve pork entrees on its breakfast menu from pigs raised without any antibiotics or added hormones. The Ricky’s Group includes approximately 90 Ricky’s All Day Grills, Ricky’s Café and Ricky’s Country Restaurants. Canadian raised animals provide the meat and eat a vegetable and grain diet. Ricky’s has worked for more than a year to make the change.
“We at Ricky’s are thrilled to be the first breakfast restaurant chain in Canada to offer breakfast meats raised without antibiotics,” Stacey Hansson, Ricky’s senior vice president, said in a statement. “We continue to be committed to serving the best quality breakfast, which is now also simply better for our guests. We strongly agree with and support the ‘don’t take unnecessary antibiotics’ message, telling the public that we don’t need antibiotics every time we are not feeling well. And we definitely don't need them in our food. Antibiotics are for the sick, not the hungry.”
The raised without any antibiotics or added hormones menu contains Bavarian sausage, farmer’s sausage, Black Forest ham, breakfast sausage, chorizo sausage and maple bacon. Each breakfast meat entrée will include a Raised Without Any Antibiotics or Added Hormones (RWA) next to it on the menu as part of Ricky’s “better for you” breakfast program. Ricky's is now working with its beef and chicken suppliers to make similar changes.
The “better for you” initiative also includes a commitment to sustainability in the form of Ocean Wise certified seafood products and a signature Rainforest Alliance certified premium blend coffee.
