WASHINGTON – Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Klement’s Sausage Co. Inc., is recalling approximately 1,689 lbs. of beef and pork snack sticks that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, the US Dept. of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Nov. 8. The problem was discovered after the FSIS Des Moines District Office received a customer complaint on Oct. 6.

Following an investigation, the FSIS officials found several additional pieces of foreign material – ranging in size from 1 to 4.88 mm. – in unopened snack stick packages. Klement’s received one report of an oral injury related to consumption of the product.

The beef and pork snack sticks being recalled were produced on May 13, 2016, and bear establishment number “EST. 2426B” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to vending distributors in Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The following products are subject to recall:

• 1-oz. plastic packages containing 2 pieces of “KLEMENT’S ORIGINAL SNACK STICKS NATURALLY HARDWOOD SMOKED NO MSG ADDED GLUTEN FREE” with a sell by date of 11-16-17 and case code of 3262.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
