Sessions about Beef 101, family business strategies and regulatory update will be offered. 
 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Attendees at the 2017 International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta, Georgia, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 2017, will have a number of educational opportunities during the 3-day show. The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) will sponsor three additional free education programs during IPPE – Beef 101, Family Businesses Strategies for Success and Meat Industry Regulatory Update and Compliance Session.

Davey Griffin, Ph.D., professor and extension meat specialist at Texas A&M Univ., will lead the “Beef 101” session on Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. The session will provide an overview of the beef lifecycle, address common questions regarding beef production, discuss factors affecting beef quality and offer a unique demonstration of innovative beef cuts.

Dave Miniat, CEO of Ed Miniat LLC, and Jennifer Pendergast, senior consultant, The Family Business Consulting Group, will speak to attendees of the “Family Businesses Strategies for Success” workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. This session will feature discussion about some of the most pressing concerns facing family businesses in the meat industry. There will also be discussions about succession planning and family member employment, along with other related topics. There will be opportunities for interaction and sharing of best practices and ideas during this 2-hour free session.

NAMI’s Senior Vice President of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs and General Counsel Mark Dopp and Vice President of Regulatory Services Norm Robertson will lead the “Meat Industry Regulatory Update and Compliance Session,” on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. This free session will cover the major regulatory issues affecting meat processors in the past year and the challenges facing the meat and poultry industry in the year ahead. Also on the agenda will be a discussion of common in-plant inspection and enforcement issues and strategies to best respond to these matters.
