CARLSTADT, N.J. – In response to growing demand, especially in the past year, officials with Schweid & Sons, a fourth-generation, family owned processor of ground beef, announced plans to expand its operations by opening a ground beef processing plant in College Park, Georgia, in 2017.

Jamie Schweid, president, said the company will be better able to serve its foodservice and retail customers in the southern and Midwest regions of the US by providing fresh and frozen products on a more timely basis. The company has committed to transforming an existing, 66,000-sq.-ft. building and equipping it with the latest technology to produce ground beef for a growing list of customers that includes Wegmans Food Markets Inc., Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Lowes Foods.

“The facility represents a major milestone for Schweid & Sons,” Schweid said. “We are thrilled at the growth that we have experienced over the last year and look forward to continuing to provide the best tasting, highest quality burgers to foodservice and retail operations around the US.”

Currently, the company’s products are produced from its 40,000-sq.-ft. plant in Carlstadt. Plans are to begin shipping product from the new facility in early 2017.
