A second plant in Nebraska is operational after temporary closure.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The cause of a large fire at a methane retention and collection system at a JBS USA plant in Marshalltown remains unknown, a company spokesman said. “We do not yet know the cause of the fire,” Cameron Bruett, JBS SA spokesman, told MEAT+POULTRY.

Firefighters were called to the JBS plant at 10:30 am on Jan. 21. Fire crews spent three hours extinguishing the blaze. No injuries of JBS employees or fire crews were reported. Damages were estimated at $500,000.

On Jan. 22, NBC Nebraska reported that a JBS plant in Grand Island, Nebraska, had temporarily shut down. Drivers hauling cattle said the plant shut down after two steers got loose inside the plant. Bruett said the plant currently is running and fully operational.
