More than 50 meat and poultry marketers participated in the exhibition at the 2017 Annual Meat Conference in Dallas on Feb. 19-21. A number of innovations target the growing snacking daypart, while others focus on flavor and convenience.
For example, Pederson’s Natural Farms Inc., Hamilton, Texas, showcased 1-oz. packs of fully cooked, uncured, no-sugar-added hickory smoked bacon slices for on-the-go snacking. For a quick lunch, The Skinnygirl brand now includes minimally processed packaged luncheon meats that sport the American Heart Association seal.
To make Mexican night easier, there’s new Calle Sabor Flavor Street Beef Taco Kits. Each kit contains everything to make six authentic street food tacos.
For consumers who want flavor adventure, Man Cave Foods, Golden Valley, Minnesota, developed a range of culinary-inspired micro batch meats. The fully cooked sausage comes in varieties like Macaroni & Cheese Stuffed Beef Links; Riesling, Kale & Smoked Gouda Chicken Sausage; and Buffalo Wing Style with Bleu Cheese Bratwurst.
If better-for-you is top of mind, new Brava Burgers frozen beef patties are made with 90% lean beef and other all-natural ingredients, including ground mushrooms, seasonings and spices. There’s an original variety, as well as Bacon & Cheddar and Spinach & Feta. Springer Mountain Farms, Mount Airy, Georgia, has fully cooked clean-label frozen chicken wings. The gluten-free wings are certified by the American Humane Association and come from chickens fed vegetarian diets that have never received antibiotics.
